Prospective Mathematics Teachers Understanding of Classical and Frequentist Probability

Strengthening the teaching of probability requires an adequate training prospective teachers, which should be based on prior assessment their knowledge. Consequently, aim this study was to analyse how 139 Spanish mathematics teachers relate classical and frequentist approaches probability. To achieve goal, content analysis used categorize teachers’ answers a questionnaire with open-ended tasks in they had estimate justify composition urn, basing results 1000 extractions from urn. Most sample proposed urn model consistent data provided; however, percentage that adequately justified construction lower. Although majority correctly calculated event new extraction chose giving highest probability, large proportion forgot previously constructed model, using only frequency data. Difficulties, such as equiprobability bias or not perceiving independence trials replacement sampling, were also observed for small part sample. These considered organisation probabilistic teachers.
